Day 03 – Your favorite series
Eh? How to choose? I love them all! Okay, fine. The Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold, the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane, and the Amelia Peabody mysteries by Elizabeth Peters. All for the same reasons-- engaging characters, beautifully realized worlds, and good writing.
Some examples:
Bothari-Jesek seemed an agent of some evil fairy, which had snatched away the beloved Miles and replaced him with this pallid, pudgy changeling. He choked down a hysterical giggle as the sardonic mocker in the back of his brain called out, Hi, Mom and Dad, I'm home....
-p. 206, Mirror Dance, A Vorkosigan Adventure by Lois McMaster Bujold
"There was no telling how she knew it, but Nita knew that inside the helmet, the knight was smiling. All the darkness sang with the force of his resolve, and with his amusement-- a grim but good-natured cheerfulness that seemed very strange when taken together with what he'd just said."
-p. 127, "A Wizard Alone" by Diane Duane.
I seized Abu's knife and prepared to cut the cloth away. The crowd, which resembled nothing so much as an assortment of laundry bags fallen haphazardly from the back of a cart, squirmed closer, and the same commentator remarked, "It is the Sitt Hakim. No doubt she will cut off the man's arm," to which his companion replied eagerly, "Lean back so that I may see better."
- p. 39, Lion in the Valley by Elizabeth Peters
