I just can't get enough of Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo's Trese comics. Not only did it get a rave from Neil Gaiman, it is the first graphic novel to be named a Book of the Month by the National Book Development Board of the Philippines, and it also tackles Philippine folklore and urban legend in a way no one's ever had before. The (purely black-and-white) drawings are great, the characters, especially kick-ass supernatural hunter Alexandra Trese, are cool, and I never get tired of re-reading it! Even if I never dare to do so at night... when I'm alone...
My teaser for today:
Alexandra Trese: What did she look like?
Aswang* leader: Pretty. She looked pretty tasty as well.
-p. 13, "At the Intersection of Balete and 13th Street" Book 1 of Trese: Murder on Balete Drive by Budjette Tan and KaJo Baldisimo
Note: An aswang is a shapechanging ghoul that feeds on human flesh.
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Okay, so the comment double-posted before and is now erased...what did I do wrong??? I just wanted to tell you that the teaser was creepy and interesting and great. Yay!
And that you could check out mine here.
