Last week it was 200+ photos. Yesterday it was 200+ pages at a glance. LOL. I almost forgot again that it's Tuesday.

One thing made me happy today, though: I picked a book out of my bookshelf and discovered that I hadn't read it yet. It's such a thin volume that it probably got shuffled into the "already read" pile and I forgot about it. It's by one of my favorite authors, so I carted it off with me to work this morning for lunchtime reading. And hey! I'm exactly 30 and a half years old today! LOL, it's an unexpected non-birthday present.

People familiar with the Mrs. Pollifax stories probably already know Dorothy Gilman. As much as I enjoy reading Mrs. Pollifax, though, my favorite is a non-Pollifax book, The Clairvoyant Countess. She has a knack for creating these sympathetic characters so that although they aren't the usual young and pretty heroines, we end up loving them just the same. Aaaand, they're usually wise and loving women too.

I have just discovered to my delight, however, that this book I picked up today does have a young and pretty heroine. And she's supposed to be smart as well. Ah, life's simple pleasures.

So before I go off to lunch with this book, I'm leaving you with this teaser from Dorothy Gilman's The Tightrope Walker. It fell open to the first page, and the first lines caught my attention at once.

"Maybe everyone lives with terror every minute of every day and buries it, never stopping long enough to look. Or maybe it's just me."
-p. 9, The Tightrope Walker by Dorothy Gilman

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
