And we're back to normal programming. I swear, Lenten rituals in this country are crazy, way crazier than those for Christmas and New Year. It seems as if we all operate outside time for three days. But hey, it's what makes us unique.
Furthermore, I picked up several interesting books at Booksale on Easter Sunday afternoon, including one of the Elizabeth Moon Kylara Vatta books I've been chasing for a year or so, and the book whence today's teaser is taken. I have been known to jump several feet when startled after reading a book like this when I was alone in my room, so I took no chances... I went to McDonald's and read it over dinner. Heehee.
I love books on the supernatural. That probably accounts for my having collected all of Barbara Michaels' books, although I never re-read many of them when alone at night. Especially The Walker in Shadows-- that one made me leery of darkened rooms and yes, shadows.
Anyway, before I totally scare myself (I can't help this combination of a superstitious rural upbringing and a vivid imagination), here's today's teaser from Storm Front, Book One of the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.
"She regarded me with a calm face, entirely void of emotion. It was a little spooky. She had the look I'd seen in films, on the faces of prisoners released from the German stalags at the end of World War II. Empty. Numb. Dead, and just didn't know it yet."

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Love the writing style and the simile definitely is quite effective to wanting to find out why she looks that way.
I enjoy reading the Dresden books. Must be nearly time for me to read another one!
