A blurb inside the book whence comes today's teaser says that the author is "a distinguished English doctor" writing under a pen name. Hrm. I picked this up in a second-hand bookstore recently for want of new reading material. I don't usually read much of the intentionally funny mysteries, except for Dorothy Cannell and Joan Hess who are in a class by themselves, but I thought I'd give it a try. Can you guess why?

You see, as is my habit, I opened the book and read a few lines. As Jerry Maguire said, "You got me at hello." That's right, the first two lines alone made me buy it. And I couldn't resist making those first two lines from Jonathan Gash's "Moonspender" today's teaser.

"This story begins where I'm making love to an ancient Chinese vase, on gangster's orders, watched by eleven point two million viewers.

But first, how to sell stolen hankies, from poverty, in the rain."
-p. 1, "Moonspender" by Jonathan Gash

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
