I was not very happy with the Percy Jackson movie. I mean, it had special effects, as movies go, except they cut out the parts that made the book come alive, so yeah... it kind of fell apart. The books are better. Yay for books and readers! (See separate post for the rest of my opinion on the movie.)

I read somewhere that these stories were originally bedtime stories that the author told to his son, who loved Greek mythology and had dyslexia. The father thus concocted stories about a dyslexic hero, incorporating elements of Greek myths... and Percy Jackson was born. Anyway, so. This week's teaser is from Book Four of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan.

Behind them stood their instructor—a six-foot-tall telekhine with Doberman fangs snarling at me. I did my best to stare him down.

“New lesson, class,” I announced. “Most monsters will vaporize when sliced with a celestial bronze sword. This change is perfectly normal, and will happen to you right now if you don’t BACK OFF!”

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

    I just finished the third in the series, and have been debating whether or not I really want to see the movie. Part of me doesn't believe these books could make a successful jump to movie without a really stellar director and vision.
