There are some people who think that the primary purpose of reading is learning. Many of these are the people who will not pick up a book that is not a textbook, believing that they've learned enough in the classroom already. Some people read to be entertained, others read to escape. Me, I read to explore. Each book, each story, is a new world that a writer has created and set before her reader, inviting them to come and play. So when I find a new world I haven't been in before, it is akin to the feeling of setting foot in a place for the first time, eager to explore what possibilities it has for adventure.
Recently I was out of reading material (again) and Booksale was out of books by my favorite authors that I hadn't already read (again), so I happened upon this book by Ann Aguirre that looked promising -- I like spec fic, after all-- and thought I'd explore a new world. Our teaser for this week is a glimpse into the world of Sirantha Jax... the world of Ann Aguirre's Grimspace.
"Open up, right now," March growls, "or I get the cutting torch."
"No visitors," the room-bot tells him sweetly. "No exceptions."
If I didn't feel like such a piece of shit, I'd find that funny as hell.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
