Among my favorite young wizards, aside from Harry, Ron and Hermione, are Nita Callahan and Kit Rodriguez. They introduced themselves to me in Diane Duane's Young Wizards series, the first book of which I idly picked up in Booksale on a rainy afternoon when I couldn't find books by my favorite mystery authors that I hadn't read yet.

Part of what I love about these books is that they are written so visually. When I read them, it seems like a movie is playing itself out in my mind. Since Diane Duane also writes movie scripts as well as book adaptations of popular movies and television series, I guess that analogy is not so far-fetched. Even then, the Young Wizards books are such wonderful reads that I usually couldn't put them down unless I've finished them, even when I was just re-reading them.

I heard that these books were going to be made into movies soon, hopefully with Diane writing the script. That way, nothing important would get left out. And I'll be first in line for tickets! But that's all in the future, hopefully.

For now, we'll just have to be content with today's teaser from the first book in Diane Duane's Young Wizards series, "So You Want To Be A Wizard," which a friend finally returned to me after a rather prolonged absence. Of course, I was so delighted to get it back that I read it all over again.

"Under what should have been the helicopter's 'bubble,' sharp dark mandibles worked hungrily-- and as the chopper heeled over and came about, those faceted eyes looked at Kit and Nita with the cold, businesslike glare reserved for helpless prey.

'We're dead,' Nita whispered."

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
