*catches breath* I hit the ground running the moment I set foot in the office today, and haven't had any free time since, so... just taking time to post a few words before I leave the office for a day and have dinner with a friend.
Another oldie but a goodie. [I seem to be posting nothing but oldies-but-goodies nowadays. Hrm.] Ever since I read Lady of Quality at the age of 12, Georgette Heyer has been a particular favorite of mine. This book is rather old-fashioned in tone, but I'm liking it so far.
"Come! If I dare? If I reach you in Spain, and claim you then? What answer shall I have?"
She was flushed, and her breast rose and fell fast. "Ah, if there were a man brave enough to dare so much for love---!"
"He stands before you. What will you give him?"
-p. 45, Beauvallet by Georgette Heyer
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
I've read a lot of Heyer's novels, but never Beauvallet. However, it is a favorite of one of my coworkers and, thanks to your teaser, I can see why!
My (much less romantic) teaser is at Stuff & Nonsense.
Oh I LOVE Georgette Heyer, and you just reminded me why :)
(Runs away to find an ebook version to read now..so much for trying to read the book I chose for Teaser Tuesday :D )
